Hi Rosie,
Thank you for your email. Netball carnivals certainly can be very busy and we need to ensure the players have plenty of fuel for their muscles and brains. Unfortunately the canteens on site are not always full of the best choices. It would be great if your daughters could come in for a consultation, then we can personalise our advice to their individual needs. Kerry Leech and Rebecca Disher (nee Evans) are our Netball specialist Dietitians so I would recommend opting for an appointment with either of them.
Thanks and good luck for the carnival.

Good afternoon,

We have 2 daughters 14 and 12 who are very involved in netball and have a lot of carnivals coming up.

I am trying to find a website which can give me information on the best types of diets and snacks etc for them to be eating regularly and then what are the best things to take to the carnivals.

Can you please recommend the best place to find this information.

Many thanks

Hi Teresa,
Thanks for your email.
Its great that your daughter is taking such a proactive position on this, she's done well managing this so far.
I am the Sports Dietitian for Gymnastics QLD, Ballet QLD and Qld Dance School of Excellence so this is something that unfortunately can pop up in aesthetic sports such as dance.
I would be happy to do an education session with the dancers and their parents, and also give your daughter support on appropriate steps to take to tackle this.
I can be contacted on 0411741059 or lauren@eatsmartnutrition.com.
I look forward to hearing back from yourself or your daughter

Hi,

I am looking for sone information and advice.
My daughter owns a dance studio and has approx 120 children enrolled. Classes consist of ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, cheerleading and a performance team that competes during the year.
They have started to see a trend of some of the girls not eating, and will bring their lunch uneaten to class. They have a homework room so my daughter gets to see them straight from school. She offers them healthy snacks and they refuse. Recently some girls have basically become so exhausted they have sat down and not finished their class. She now has made a rule that if she does not see them eat a snack they cannot start class till they do so. It is difficult but she feels responsible for them.
Along with the nutritional problems they are having there is the emotional side to it. Often these girls are perfectionists and want to be the best and push themselves all of the time.
It is also hard for them as my daughter is tall and slim and even though she eats all of the time they don't see that and possibly aspire to be thin like her.
So my questions are:
Is there a program/workshop that they could attend that addresses some of these issues?
What is the best way for them to approach this with parents?
It's the parents responsibility how do we educate them?
How do they support the children to understand their need to eat as they exercise a lot?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Cheers, Teresa

Hi Dani,
Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately we require a Bachelor or Masters degree which allows you to be eligible to be an Accredited Practising Dietitian through Dietitians Association of Australia. So while your current study would no doubt assist in gaining a Bachelor degree, you would need to further your study to work at Eat Smart.
Best of luck for the remainder of your studies
Lauren

Hi,

I am currently studying an Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine and would like to know if you could shed some light on my options when I graduate. Would I be able to work in a clinic like this and would you be interested in having me there for prac?

Thanks

Hi there

My name is Michelle Gemmell and I am from Bravo Well, a new company offering holistic life guide services to over 50s in Brisbane and surrounds with a view to expand across state borders in the coming months.

I would like the opportunity to discuss an opportunity for Eat Smart Nutrition to join our Bravo Well preferred provider network.

We offer our customers an hour wellness consultation with our Wellness Guide during which they explore what motivates them to stay well and set goals, a comprehensive online profile through which to track their healthy habits and their progress towards their goals, plus ongoing personalised support and advice from the Wellness Guide and her team of health professionals. We provide our customers with detailed and individualised data analytics of their progress and achievements, as well as regular contact from the Wellness Guide and motivational tips. We are also continuing to develop an online community for our Bravo Well members to connect with each other and preferred providers. We are also building a trusted preferred provider network, of which we would love you to be a part of. If you are interested, it would be wonderful if you have half an hour, at your convenience, to get together somewhere near you with myself and one of our Wellness Guides to discuss the opportunity further.

Please find below a link to our website and to our Facebook for more information.
