Brisbane Broncos 2011 NRL turnaround

by Lauren James on May 12, 2011

Our own Peta Carige has been helping the Brisbane Broncos attain their great position on the NRL ladder leading in to the State of Origin series. The team is full of young players who are more than pulling their weight alongside the more experienced campaigners. The club had a great representation in the test team against NZ with one being an excited debutant Jharal Yow Yeh.

Peta has spent a great deal of time ensuring they reach and maintain their optimal weight and body fat levels as well as learning the finer points of looking after their nutrition needs and learning how to cook! They even have their own club cookbook with favourite recipe contributions from some players. The NYC (under 20) team is also doing well and is full of NRL players of the future and have had regular education and practical nutrition sessions over the first part of the season. Go the Broncos and the Maroons!

Go the Broncos! I hope they win the premiership because I don’t think the Titans will get there this year.
And of course the mighty Maroons to wipe the Blues out again in 2011!

How can I get the team cookbook? What a great way to encourage everyone to have a go in the kitchen. If your favourite sporting team can do it, why not you?

Hi Sue,
The cookbook is a special publication only for Bronco’s players (we can’t give away their winning secret!) however the AIS produces fantastic cookbooks for athletes. These can be purchased through Eat Smart Nutrition or on the AIS website http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/nutrition/recipes. Eat Smart also has recipes on this blog and on their website http://www.eatsmartnutrition.com. Happy Cooking!

Thanks Lauren,
I’ll look into the cookbooks you mention. Your website recipes are great. I use them a lot and no one ever guesses they are eating healthily…….let’s keep it a secret, hey!
